COVID- 19 TESTING FAQ

wHAT TYPE OF TEST ARE YOU USING?

FidaLab uses real time PCR. Real time PCR offers the highest available sensitivity and specificity for the definitive diagnosis of COVID -19. This means you will have the most accurate results available for determining if someone is positive for COVID-19.

This is in the order of most recently approved to earliest approved tests. We are using Thermofisher TaqPath test, No# 28. It was the 5th test approved by FDA under EUA.

What method of collection is acceptable?

For initial diagnostic testing for SARS-CoV-2, CDC recommends collecting and testing an upper respiratory specimen. The following are acceptable specimens.

  •  A nasopharyngeal (NP) specimen collected by a healthcare provider
  • A nasal mid-turbinate swab collected by a healthcare provdider or by a supervised onsite self-collection (using a flocked tapered swab)
  •  A anterior nares (nasal swab) specimen collected by a healthcare provider or by onside or home self-collection (using a flocked or spun polyester swab)

What is your turn around time for results

24-48 hours, but 95% of the time you will see results the nest business day after our lab receives the specimens. We do not process on the weekends, however so if a test arrives on a Friday afternoon it will be processed on Monday.

How do you send out results?

We have a secure digital portal that you can access and view all results and use them as needed.

How much does the test cost?

We charge $100 per test.

Included in the $100 cost:

  • Testing kits
  • Shipping Materials
  • Processing

Does insurance cover the cost?

In many cases yes. Medicare and Medicaid have been very good about paying and many private insurances also pay. If we recieve the billing information we will submit. If we do not receive any billing information, we will assume the bill will be sent to you.

Is your lab clia certified?

Absolutely!

Can you do testing outside of the state of Washington?

Yes. We provide detailed instructions on how to make this work!

Can your test give the cycle threshold
on a positive result?

We are using the approved FDA EUA testing platform from ThermoFisher. ThermoFisher does not authorize us to report the cycle threshold, and if we were to do so, we would be acting outside of the FDA EUA rules.

Can you test for influenza A & B with the covid sample?

Yes. If you want us to run an influenza test alone, the cost is $100, if you want influenza and COVID tested we only charge $150 total. ( Only one swab is needed to run both tests) Again, we can submit these to insurance as well.

How do we get samples to you?

If you live in the Seattle or surrounding area, we have a courier system in place that may be a good option for you. We can also ship supplies.

What does NA or inconclusive result mean?

Result Action NA Repeat test, if the repeat result remains invalid, consider collecting a new specimen. Result Action Inconclusive, repeat test. If the repeat results remains inconclusive, additional confirmation testing should be conducted if clinically indicated. Samples with a result of SARS-CoV-2 Inconclusive shall be retested one time. Retesting must happen from the original sample.

We need to have communication about your testing schedule and amount of test kits needed, but yes.
